The kitchen I grew up in
I grew up around my mother's food business. For decades, she has fed people — sourcing ingredients before dawn, keeping quality consistent, and building trust one meal at a time. The kitchen was never just a workplace. It was proof that good food, made reliably, could hold a community together.
What campus looked like
“Good food existed. Affordability at student scale did not.”
When I left for campus, I saw a different picture. Students were skipping meals, eating whatever was cheapest, or paying far too much for something decent. The food was there. The willingness to cook with care — I had seen that my whole life. What was missing was a way to make it affordable at student scale.
What my mother already knew
I kept coming back to something my mother understood instinctively: when people buy together, everyone eats better. Bulk purchasing lowers cost. Fixed groups create predictability. One person coordinates; everyone benefits. She had been doing versions of this for years — just without an app, without campus pickup points, without a way to reach thousands of students at once.
Building Bite
Bite is my attempt to scale what she built with her hands. Not by replacing the craft, but by solving the logistics around it. Students form groups of four. When a group fills, the group leader pays once. Meals are prepared and collected on campus with a secure pickup pass. The technology handles the queue, the payment, and the handoff — so the focus stays on feeding people well, every day.
